Andrew Garfields viral Oscars moment – Last weekend, Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield created his own viral Oscars moment.
Molly McNearney, the wife of three-time ceremony host Jimmy Kimmel, claims that her husband’s witty list of celebrity security guards was pre-planned.
Kimmel mentioned Creed III’s Michael B Jordan, Best Actress winner Michelle Yeoh, The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal, and The Fabelmans director Steven Spielberg during his opening monologue, but Garfield had a surprise for the cameras.
“You’ll have to fight Michelle Yeoh before you can get to me. You’ll have to defeat the Mandalorian before you can capture me. You’re going to have to deal with Spider-Man “Kimmel said from the stage, with the latter seen apologizingly grinning.
“I approached Michelle, Michael, Pedro, Andrew, and Steven and told them that they would be on camera and that Jimmy would refer to them as part of his security team. If you could just give him a fist bump or show some physical support…’ “Variety spoke with McNearney.
“They were up for it and very supportive.”
Apparently, Garfield was asked to perform a Spidey web-sling, but McNearney said he ended up making “his own choice, which I think even better”.
This was, of course, a play on Will Smith and Chris Rock’s Oscar slapping scandal from last year, in which the eventual Best Actor winner walked up to the host on stage and whacked him across the cheek.
“Will Smith smacked the s*** out of me!” Before continuing with the show, Rock told the stunned A-list audience.
